It’s finally the end of June, and we’ve also wrapped up our first week of heavy beta testing! We now have over 5+ small firms from North Carolina and Texas testing out Compact—a total of around 15 people—and we’ve making new changes and updates based on their feedback. We’re really proud of the progress we have made since the beginning of the summer, and we’re excited to continue refining and improving Compact. Without further ado, let’s get into the updates we have this week! 👀
1. New Features: Automating with Workflows & Playbooks 🔄
This week, we’ve added Workflows & Playbooks to help lawyers automate specific tasks. Although Workflows is still under development, we’re excited to share what the future of Compact is shaping up to be!
Workflows 🔀
Describe recurring legal work in plain English. Compact turns your instructions into an automated pipeline—a reviewable workflow draft—before anything runs.

Click “Trigger” to decide how the workflow should operate. Or leave it at “Detect automatically,” and Compact will decide for you, based on your prompt.
Once you have typed in your prompt, click “Generate draft” and Compact automatically produces a workflow draft for you. A flowchart will also be generated, so that you can visually see how the workflow is supposed to work. Click “Edit” at the bottom of the workflow draft in order to change the generated output by Compact.

A look at how clicking “Edit” enables you to make changes to any part of the workflow.

Once you have made any necessary changes, click “Turn on workflow” and Compact will save your workflow and automatically start performing the work for you! If you want to stop using a workflow, simply click the toggle button at the right hand corner of the workflow’s card and turn it “Off.”
Resources → Playbooks 📂
With Playbooks, you can directly guide how common tasks are accomplished by Compact. Simply upload your precedents and standard forms, and Compact uses them as templates to follow. This allows Compact to standardize the output of your prompts, so that we always match your exact formatting, tone, and legal language.
In the following, we’ve uploaded California Judicial Council Form’s FL-145 (Form Interrogatories for California Family Law) as an example.

You can manually include instructions and details about the form, or leave it up to Compact perform that work for you.

Once Compact has generated a playbook for you—based off the FL-145 form—you can edit it by clicking the pencil/pen symbol next to the “On/Off” toggle button. If you no longer want Compact to use this form, you can either disable it temporarily by clicking that “On/Off” toggle button, or deleting it by clicking the trash bin symbol.

2. Updates: Motion + Integrations, “Needs Attention” & Long Document Processing 🆕
Motion & Integrations Update 🌐
One of our beta testers specially requested we add Motion as another platform you can integrate on Compact. Along with that, you may have noticed we had completely changed the look of the “Integrations” tab. This is just one of the many UI changes we have made to make our platform more user friendly, based on the feedback our beta testers have given us.

You can now connect Motion in Compact!

We’ve made it easier for you to navigate the “Integrations” tab.
Open Loops → Needs Attention 💡
One of our beta testers said it was unclear what purpose our “Open Loops” feature served. So we’ve renamed it to “Needs Attention.” Every time Compact finds an item that may need a reply, review, or preparation, we flag it for you in this section of our platform.

Long Documents Processing 📄
We are very pleased to announce that Compact is reliably able to retrieve and comprehend between 200-500 page documents!
This means that anything from extensive medical records and charts to asset and financial portfolios can be uploaded, and any specific information you would like Compact to retrieve can be done within minutes—saving you hours of manual review!
